CHARLOTTE, N.C.—People aren’t the only beneficiaries of Womble Carlyle’s pro bono services. Sometimes, some of Winston’s four-legged friends need a little legal help.
Case in point: attorneys Dirk Lasater and Jackson Price recently represented a client who rescues abandoned pitbulls and rehabs them for adoption. This particular client rescues pitbulls that no other adoption agency will accept, which often have significant medical expenses and require extensive rehab. One of the dogs she rescued was a pregnant two-year-old blue pitbull with cancer. Despite promising to treat the dog’s cancer and accepting fundraising proceeds to do so, the adoptive parent decided he didn’t want to pay for the dog’s medical treatments. So she turned to Lasater and Price, who agreed to help on a pro bono basis.
Lasater and Price worked to get the dog returned to their client, and were able to do so without going to court. The client put the dog in treatment, and we are pleased to report that their furry client is now doing great, and in complete (and hopefully permanent) remission.
