"Client service has always been my top priority. Seeing our clients succeed – that’s what drives me; that’s what Womble Carlyle is all about.”
To help a client realize success, we must truly add value, and that happens through our efforts to really understand your business – not just what you make or what you sell, but what it takes to help you navigate the legal implications of your strategic actions – whether it is raising capital to grow, acquiring another business, creating the right governance structure for your company, mitigating operational and regulatory risks, and passionately asserting or defending your rights in disputes.
When I was growing up in North Carolina, I was inspired by my entrepreneurial father, from whom I learned what it takes to be a great business person, which in turn made me strive to be a great lawyer. Watching my Dad build a start-up chemicals business into an industry leader taught me that being technically competent – even brilliant – is not enough. Real professional success is built on relationships, partnerships and genuine trust. So you see, client service is deeply personal to me - and helping businesses grow is just part of my DNA. Whatever position I have with the firm, I’ll always be here for you – for our clients.
As the Chair of Womble Carlyle, I’m committed to ensuring that we deliver value as defined by your yardstick – not ours. I want to work with you and all of the Womble Carlyle lawyers serving you to make sure that we are fully aligned with your goals and that you know without question that you are a valued, and trusted, business partner.
For more than 25 years, I have been privileged to serve as what many of my public and private clients refer to as, ‘their trusted advisor.’ Since my first IPO in 1993 for a company that made carpets out of recycled soda bottles, I have guided public companies and their boards in strategic transactions including public offerings, tender offers, mergers and acquisitions, and important compliance and severance matters. I understand your need for sophisticated advice and business-sound guidance – with an efficient and predictable budget that helps you truly realize all of your business objectives.
With an eye on serving you, and working to constantly improve Womble Carlyle’s focus on client service and adding value, I now enjoy spending my time with our firm’s lawyers and our clients and friends in all 15 of our offices…and beyond.
Seeing our clients succeed – that’s what drives me. That’s what Womble is all about!
