As a partner with Womble Carlyle, I enjoy all aspects of intellectual property law, including providing advice to clients on overall protection and enforcement strategies. However, I focus my practice on litigation and dispute resolution. In particular, I work on claims of infringement involving patents, trademark, copyright and trade secret misappropriation for private and public companies. I have more than a decade of experience in intellectual property dispute resolution that has taken me to dozens of federal district courts, several appellate courts, and the United States Supreme Court. To date, I have counseled clients in:
In my litigation practice, I focus on pre-litigation enforcement and finding creative resolutions to disputes before litigation occurs. However, should the matter result in litigation, I focus on critical pre-trial steps, such as bringing and defending against motions for preliminary injunctions, patent claim construction, surveys regarding likelihood of confusion, mark strength, and genericness in trademark infringement cases, all phases of fact and expert discovery, and dispositive motions. These pre-trial steps often position a case for a favorable disposition, either through summary judgment or settlement and often reduce costs. If the matter goes to trial, I bring trial experience to the dispute that allows me to guide clients through the difficult aspects of a jury or bench trial. I am also a co-author for the firms Furniture Law Blog.
I am a 2001 graduate of Saint Louis University School of Law and received my B.A. in Biology in 1996 from Truman State University. I enjoy supporting the arts through community involvement and pro bono work for artists and arts organizations. When not practicing law, I enjoy fly fishing, upland bird hunting, bluegrass music, and spending time with my family.
