Heike applies her extensive background in organic chemistry to patent prosecution. She is also a named inventor on over 20 patents regarding therapeutics.
Heike has more than ten years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, working in therapeutic areas such as cardiovascular, CNS, oncology, and molecular imaging. She has particular knowledge of rational drug design, structure-activity relationship (SAR) development, computer-aided drug design, chemical library design, hit-to-lead optimization, lead structure refinement, and use of numerous modeling techniques. Two of the cardiovascular agents she discovered are currently undergoing advanced clinical trials.
Before joining Womble Carlyle, Heike worked as a senior research investigator for Lantheus. In this role, she led the cardiovascular and oncology projects beginning in the pre-clinical evaluation stage. Prior to that Heike was a senior research investigator with Bristol-Myers Squibb, where she was the medicinal chemistry group leader and the primary inventor of flurpiridaz (currently in Phase III studies).
Heike’s graduate work at Boston College culminated in her dissertation Total Synthesis of (-)-llimaquinone and Analogs: Isolation of Cellular Target(s).
