Lakshmi Rajan, Ph.D., is a Patent Agent in the Tysons Corner Office, focusing on a variety of intellectual property matters including patent drafting, domestic and foreign patent prosecution, patentability opinions, freedom-to-operate, development and management of patent portfolios, and general client counseling involving technologies related to the life sciences, with particular emphasis on biotechnology, microbiology and pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Rajan is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and has represented a wide spectrum of clients including independent inventors, universities, national laboratories, start-up companies and multinational corporations on technologies, such as antibodies, engineered enzymes, therapeutic peptides, genomics, genome engineering, gene editing, vaccines, biomarkers, diagnostics, small molecules, food products, and nutraceuticals.
Dr. Rajan received her B.S. in Microbiology from Panjab University, Chandigarh, India, her M. Biotech. from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India, and her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Texas at Austin, Austin, Texas. Her doctoral research work focused on the identification, mapping and cloning of several novel murine genetic loci involved in T-cell lymphomas using genomic mapping technologies. She was a postdoctoral fellow, instructor and co-investigator at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where her research work addressed molecular mechanisms of embryonic development, and injury/repair in skeletal tissues using transgenic animal models, RNA in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, focused microarrays, and real time PCR technologies. Her academic research work led to several co-authored publications in peer-reviewed journals, including Genes and Development, Leukemia, Journal of Virology, Mammalian Genome, Tubercle, and Lancet.
