For more than four decades Johnny has guided companies in general corporate matters, mergers and acquisitions, commercial real estate transactions and banking law.
In addition, he has guided mid-market and smaller corporations, partnerships, and joint ventures in formation, dissolutions, and intra-company disputes, general corporate and business entity matters, including mergers and acquisitions, specifically FBO private aircraft facilities; loan transactions, regulatory matters, internal investigations and litigation. He has represented numerous commercial and residential tract developers in commercial and residential real estate development and sales, including office projects, dormitory projects, multi-use tract development, institutional debt and equity financing, and debtor and creditor rights. He has substantial experience in the aviation industry.
Johnny is the former Chair of the Corporation, Banking and Securities Section of the South Carolina Bar.
Johnny is listed at the top rating in Chambers USA, which selects attorneys based on interviews with lawyers and clients, for both the Corporate/M&A and the Corporate Real Estate practice areas. He is a member of the Firm’s Public Company Advisors Team.
Johnny has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America© since 1993. His involvement in the local community extends well beyond his duties to law-related institutions. He has served on the Board of Directors for both Roper Hospital and Spoleto Festival USA and served as President of the Boards of Historic Charleston Foundation and College of Charleston Foundation. Johnny has served as the President of the Board of Directors for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra twice, for the 1985-1986 season and again from 2010 through 2012.
