Milestones in the Mortgage Meltdown
October 23, 2008
A Timeline of Policy, Legislative and Regulatory Actions (and Inactions) that Helped Propel the 2008 Financial Crisis in the USA
As the nation's economy slipped into crisis, Womble Carlyle attorney Don Lampe emerged as a leading authority on the situation. Even before the crisis began, Lampe testified before Congress twice in 2007 on problems affecting the mortgage lending industry. Several times over the last eighteen months, he has presented to industry trade groups and other audiences on government and market responses to the growing economic crisis. Mike Ray of the Firm's Winston-Salem office organized and moderated a panel discussion entitled The Global Financial Crisis and its Impact on Clients and their Lawyers at the Lex Mundi 2008 Annual and Latin American/Caribbean Regional Conference, held Oct. 17th in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This outline of the timeline of the financial crisis, prepared by Lampe and Ray, was part of Lampe's panel presentation at the Buenos Aires event.
