Political Ads Can Bring Unwanted Legal Hassles for Radio, TV Broadcasters
September 13, 2010
The fall election season is heating up—and so is the tone of political advertising. Already, several candidates have threatened legal action against attack ads run by their opponents. For example, the campaign of Louisiana Senator David Vitter has threatened to sue radio stations if they continue airing negative advertisements paid for by his opponent.
How should radio stations respond to such challenges? Womble Carlyle attorney Gregg Skall addresses this issue in a recent op-ed in the Radio-Television Business Report. Skall says the answer to this question lies in Section 315 of the Communications Act
Gregg Skall is a Washington, D.C.-based attorney at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC focusing on all things media and FCC.
