CMS Heightened Scrutiny into Home Health Agencies is Focused on Florida Providers, While the Investigations into Durable Medical Equipment Suppliers are Expected to Increase in Seven States

To clarify the client alert recently issued, CMS' announced scrutiny of home health agencies is focused solely on Florida, particularly the Miami area. Its scrutiny of durable medical equipment suppliers extends to seven states, California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, and Texas. As we noted, compliant home health agencies in Florida and durable medical equipment suppliers in the seven listed states should be prepared to be responsive to any government inquiry which includes reviewing their operations and their compliance programs and policies before the government contacts them.
