Client Alert
Nationwide EAS Test – November 9 at 2 PM EST
October 27, 2011
The FCC has issued a handbook that provides operational instructions and useful guidance in conjunction with the first-ever nationwide test of its Emergency Alert System on November 9, 2011 at 2 PM Eastern Standard Time.
Here is a copy: http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-11-1788A2.pdf.
Please note that this special handbook should be used only for the national test and does not replace the one to be used generally.
The test is being conducted by the FCC and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is intended to diagnose problems and suggest the need for improvements in EAS.
All stations must participate in this test – including those designated as “NN” (Non-participating National sources), who will follow a simplified protocol. All stations must also submit test result data no later than December 27, 2011, either on paper or on-line using forms available at http://apps.fcc.gov/easnt/home1.cfm.
