Charlie Edwards to Speak at Reductions in Force Litigation Teleconference
Increasingly, employers find themselves battling Reductions In Force (RIF) litigation. The ongoing economic downturn has led to a sharp increase in the number of layoffs, which, in turn, has led to a spike in the number of lawsuits alleging violations of the WARN Act, state and federal discrimination laws, and wage and hour laws, as well as claims presented to courts and agencies on other theories—even the recent sit-in at Republic Windows in Chicago and the litigation flowing out of that event.
Womble Carlyle attorney Charlie Edwards will participate in an upcoming teleconference designed to educate employers about the best ways to avoid Reductions In Force-related litigation. The live 90-minute conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3rd, and is sponsored by the Legal Publishing Group of Strafford Publications.
Edwards presentation will be on current litigation trends related to RIFs. Other attorneys will discuss best practices for avoiding RIF lawsuits and strategies for defending RIF lawsuits.
Charlie Edwards has nearly 40 years’ experience representing employers in labor and employment matters. While he has defended employers in literally hundreds of employment law-related cases across the country, his practice focuses on counseling clients to help them avoid litigation.
