Former U.S. Assistant Attorney General Gregory Katsas to Speak at Womble Carlyle Office

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—The Piedmont Triad Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society welcomes former U.S. Assistant Attorney General Gregory Katsas for a discussion of the Supreme Court's rulings during 2010-2011 term. Katsas will provide an overview of high profile cases from the previous term and take questions from the audience.
The event takes place Tuesday, July 19th at the office of Womble Carlyle, One West Fourth Street in Winston-Salem. A networking reception begins at 5:30 p.m. The discussion will start at 6:30 p.m. and should last approximately an hour.
Between 2001 and 2009, Katsas served in many senior positions in the United States Department of Justice, including Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division and Acting Associate Attorney. During this time, Katsas argued or supervised most of the leading civil appeals brought by or against the federal government. He has argued almost 50 appeals, including cases in every federal appellate court and the U.S. Supreme Court. His cases have involved such topics as the detention of enemy combatants at Guantanamo Bay; national security letters; the state secrets privilege; the Defense of Marriage Act; partial-birth abortion; physician-assisted suicide; the Pledge of Allegiance; and Obamacare.
