Kortanek Speaks At Mid-Atlantic Bankruptcy Seminar
August 29, 2007
Womble Carlyle attorney Steven K. Kortanek was a panel speaker at the recent American Bankruptcy Institute's Third Annual Mid-Atlantic Bankruptcy Workshop in Cambridge, Maryland.
The August 10th presentation was entitled "Ethical Considerations in Solicitation of Creditor Committee Engagements," and covered a number of significant issues that arise under the Bankruptcy Code, the Bankruptcy Rules and the Model Rules of Professional Conduct when law firms and financial professionals seek to be engaged by an official committee of unsecured creditors. The panel was moderated by Kelly Beaudin Stapleton, the United States Trustee for Region III.
The three-day seminar brought together more than 250 insolvency professionals, including 12 bankruptcy judges.
Mr. Kortanek is a founding member of the Advisory Board for the ABI Mid-Atlantic Workshop. Womble Carlyle became a sponsor following Mr. Kortanek's joining the firm's Wilmington, Delaware office earlier this year. He regularly represents official committees of unsecured creditors and equity security holders, and also represents debtors, plan administrators, liquidating trustees, lenders, asset purchasers, senior executives, and other parties in business bankruptcy cases.
