On Friday, May 1, Mike Cicero of the firm's Atlanta office delivered a presentation in Charlotte, N.C. during the Spring 2009 Meeting of the Carolina Patent, Trademark, and Copyright Law Association ("CPTCLA"). The CPTCLA is an association of intellectual property attorneys from both North Carolina and South Carolina who gather twice a year for educational and networking purposes. Mike was one of three speakers whose presentations allowed attendees to obtain CLE credit. His presentation addressed a patent law phenomenon known as "Divided Infringement of Method Claims" and concluded with responsive strategic tips for both litigators and patent prosecution counsel. Following the program, Mike attended a networking reception where he introduced himself to several Carolina IP attorneys. This was Mike's first attendance of a CPTCLA event since 1997, when he moved from Greenville, S.C. to the Atlanta area. Jim Witherspoon, a patent attorney in the firm's Charlotte office, had alerted Mike to this speaking opportunity earlier this year when he solicited topics for the Spring 2009 Meeting from the firm's IP attorneys. An active member of the CPTCLA, Jim is a past Board Member and is currently serving a third term as Treasurer.
