PHOENIX—Womble Carlyle Pro Bono Director Tripp Greason participated in a panel discussion on “Pro Bono and Legal Services in Times of Crisis: Responding to Natural or Man-Made Disasters” at the American Bar Association/National Legal Aid and Defender Association Equal Justice Conference. The conference took place May 13-15th in Phoenix.

In the past several years, both natural and man-made disasters have brought huge legal challenges. Whether a hurricane or an economic crisis, each disaster has taught pro bono leaders how to better mobilize lawyers to address disasters in the future. The panel addressed anticipating and implementing systems for response before and after disaster strikes.

Other panel members were:

  • Nancy Anderson, Director of Pro Bono and Legal Mobilization, Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law
  • John Eidleman, Senior Program Counsel, Legal Services Corporation
  • Mary Ellen Martinet, Associate Chief Counsel for Field Counsel, DHS/FEMA Office of the Chief Counsel
The Equal Justice Conference brings together all components of the legal community to discuss equal justice issues as they relate to the delivery of legal services to the poor and low-income individuals in need of legal assistance. The emphasis of this Conference is on strengthening partnerships among the key players in the civil justice system.
