Womble Carlyle Hosts FMLA Seminars in Greensboro, Winston-Salem
The U.S. Department of Labor has revised the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Regulations to substantially change the process employers must follow when employees need FLMA leave. These revisions take effect Jan. 16, 2009, and every employer should be aware of them.
The FMLA changes address such topics as:
- FMLA eligibility;
- Employee notice requirements for taking FMLA leave;
- Changes to the “continuing treatment” definition of serious health conditions;
- Certifications and recertifications of health conditions;
- What time counts and does not count as FMLA leave;
- Direct contact with an employee’s health care provider; and
- Military family leave requirements.
As a result of these changes, every employer subject to the FMLA must act now to update its FMLA policies, update its FMLA postings and update the forms it uses in connection with FMLA leave requests.
In order to help Triad employers familiarize themselves with these changes, Womble Carlyle Labor and Employment attorneys John Pueschel and Mark Sampson are presenting two Workplace Solutions breakfast seminars on the new revisions to the Family and Medical Leave Act. At these seminars, Mr. Pueschel and Mr. Sampson will not simply summarize the new regulations. Rather, they will offer practical guidance to employers on how to properly and effectively manage FMLA requests in light of the new regulations.
The Greensboro seminar will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 3rd, with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and the presentation from 8-9 a.m. It will be held at Womble Carlyle’s Greensboro office, located at 300 N. Greene Street (the Wachovia Tower), Suite 1900.
The Winston-Salem seminar takes place on Thursday, Feb. 5th. Again, breakfast is at 7:30 a.m., with the hour-long presentation beginning at 8 a.m. The Winston-Salem office is located at One West Fourth Street, at the corner of Fourth and Main.
These seminars are free and breakfast is provided, but seating is limited. Click here to register.
