About Site Tools
new Consumer Product Safety Commission Complaint Database stands to put both manufacturers and retailers at risk of unwarranted, unsubstantiated public criticism. In response, the Association of Corporate Counsel and Womble Carlyle offered a Webinar to help companies prepare.

The 60-minute Webinar took place at 2 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Feb. 8th. Womble Carlyle attorneys Bill Womble Jr. and John Sweeney presented. The moderator was Whitnie Henderson, Legal Counsel for the Association of California Water Agencies.

Topics discussed included:

  • What manufacturers and retailers need to do in advance to ensure they learn about a complaint to the CPSC concerning their products;
  • Approaches to best protect honest consumers, good products and your company or clients from unwarranted, unsubstantiated public criticism vented on the public, online CPSC Database.

The CPSC database went live on March 11th. The online database is accessible to anyone, and consumers can lodge complaints against manufacturers and retailers. All consumer complaints cannot be vetted by the CPSC, and companies only have a 10-day window to dispute false or misleading claims, or breaches of confidential information.
