Alireza Behrooz is a registered patent attorney in Womble Carlyle’s Intellectual Property Group. Dr. Behrooz concentrates his intellectual property practice on preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the biotechnological and pharmaceutical sciences. He has drafted numerous patent applications and legal opinions for a broad range of inventions and in a variety of technical fields including the biochemical and biological arts, oral and personal care products, and pet nutrition. Dr. Behrooz’s research experience includes a Masters of Science degree in Biology with a concentration in molecular and cellular biology, a Doctorate degree in Molecular Biology and Microbiology, and a Post-Doctorate fellowship. He is a graduate of Franklin Pierce Law Center.
During his graduate and post-doctorate work, Dr. Behrooz continued with research related to diabetes and oncogenesis using both cell culture models as well as transgenic mice. His varied experience in biological science includes experiments involving genomics, proteomics, and cellular analysis.
- Genomics: Research included experiments involving transgenic technology coupled with gene microarrays to study molecular events involved in mammary neoplasia and gene expression; Use of cloning techniques to modify nucleic acid for use in in vitro assays, transfer into mammalian and bacterial cells, and transgenic animals; Extensive use of nucleic acid procedures for detection, purification, construction, and/or amplification of genomic DNA, cDNA and RNA.
- Proteomics: Research included experiments involving recombinant protein expression, electrophoresis, and protein/DNA interactions.
- Cellular analysis: Research included experiments involving signal transduction by Mitogen Activated Protein Kinase, cellular transfection and transformation, and histological analysis of oncogenic tissue.
