Extraordinary client service is the defining characteristic of Alison Ashe-Card’s legal career. She now brings that devotion to client service to Womble Carlyle’s Product Liability Practice group.
Alison’s practice focuses on high profile product liability cases in federal and state courts nation-wide where complex medical and scientific issues are critical to the defense. She has extensive experience in a full range of legal, factual and scientific issues involved in product liability litigation and has particular knowledge in crafting medical and science-based defenses. Alison also has extensive experience in utilizing technological innovations to formulate efficient and cost-effective approaches to case/matter management in complex litigation and transactional matters. Prior to returning to active litigation, Alison served as a liaison attorney to a corporate client at the firm’s Case Management Facility.
Alison began her career as a staff attorney with The Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago, where she practiced for five years before relocating to North Carolina. She represented low-income clients with a wide variety of legal problems, including bankruptcy, landlord-tenant and housing issues, disability and employment. She was in either state or federal court almost every day and regularly appeared before administrative law judges at the Office of Hearings and Appeals of the Social Security Administration. In addition, she represented numerous clients in administrative appeals before the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Illinois Employment Security Commission, and the Illinois Department of Public Aid.
Her devotion to career and community was recognized in 2006, when she was selected for inclusion in The Triad Business Journal’s Annual Top 40 Leaders Under Forty. In 2003, she was an award recipient of the YMCA Black Achievers in Business and Industry.
Alison currently serves as the webpage/blog chair for DRI’s Diversity Committee, where she provides quality content on diversity and women’s issues for DRI’s blog. She has also recently been appointed to serve on DRI’s Public Policy Committee for the 2010-2011 term.
In addition to her DRI activities, Alison is an active member of the National Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, the North Carolina Association of Black Attorneys, and the Forsyth County Bar Association. She is the former president of the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers (2004-2008), a group comprised of more than 900 lawyers and judges.
Alison devotes time to a number of civic organizations, including the Winston-Salem State University Board of Visitors, United Way Women’s Leadership Council, The Women’s Fund of Winston-Salem, Forsyth Medical Center Foundation Women’s Council, Sara Lee Center for Women’s Health Advisory Board, Wake Forest University School of Medicine Institutional Review Board (IRB), and Leadership Winston-Salem. She also serves on the executive committee for the local graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the first Greek-letter organization established by Black college women whose mission is to empower communities through exemplary volunteer service initiatives and progressive programs.
