For over thirty years, Allen Grumbine has counseled banks, other lenders, creditors and businesses in complex financial, lending and workout transactions and in bankruptcy proceedings. In that connection he has handled UCC matters, complex contracts and lending arrangements and the purchase and sale of many businesses.

He has recently:

  • Created a document platform for South Carolina asset based lending.
  • Reviewed and commented upon a client bank's commercial lending document platform.
  • Developed an extensive set of South Carolina documents for consensual workouts of distressed loans.
  • Managed the workout and collection of a large, acquired portfolio of distressed bank loans.
  • Represented lenders in sales of loans.
  • Handled many foreclosure, replevin and receivership actions.
  • Handled the sale of both manufacturing and service businesses.

He was the first bankruptcy attorney in the State of South Carolina to receive national certification as a specialist in Business Bankruptcy Law from the American Board of Certification. He was then in the first "class" of South Carolina attorneys certified by the South Carolina Supreme Court as a Specialist in Business Bankruptcy and Debtor-Creditor Law. He then went on to be Chairman of that Specialty Advisory Board.

He is listed in Best Lawyers in America in both the category of Corporate, Mergers and Acquisitions and the category of Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtors Rights Law, is listed in 2008-2011 Super Lawyers in the category of Banking and is also listed in the 2011 Chambers USA edition as “an excellent technician who not only has big ideas, but also the skill to translate them into action.” Allen currently serves as Practice Group leader of the Firm's Bankruptcy Practice Group and as the Managing Partner of the Firm's Greenville, South Carolina Office.
