Beth Tyner Jones

Beth practices primarily in the areas of employment and education law.  She concentrates her employment practice on providing effective counseling and compliance assistance to enable her clients to manage human resources-related risks proactively.  Beth uses her experience as a human resources professional and in-house legal counsel to assist public and private employers, multi-state and non-profit, in complying with all federal and state employment laws.  She prepares policies, handbooks, and employment agreements as well as provides training for employers on a variety of employment practices.  Her experience includes developing workforce restructuring programs, preparing severance plans and phased retirement agreements, providing advice on I-9 compliance, conducting FLSA audits, conducting investigations, and advising on employee privacy issues.  She has represented employers before agencies such as EEOC and Department of Labor as well as in various courts.  

In addition to her experience with employment issues, Beth has a significant background in representing not-for-profits, including institutions of higher learning.  Beth serves as legal counsel and outside general counsel to colleges, universities, and secondary schools in her education practice.  She advises clients on all aspects of education law including student issues, policy development, OCR investigations, governance, affiliation agreements, and Title IX, for example.  In particular, she assists in faculty, administrative and staff employment issues unique to the academic world and has served as a faculty member before rejoining Womble Carlyle.
