A member of the Business Litigation Practice Group, Cathy represents companies in business disputes involving residential and commercial real estate, commercial leasing, multifamily housing, airport retail and concession development, employment discrimination, commercial contracts, business fraud and deceptive trade practices, manufacturing, distribution and franchise, and supply chain interruption. Cathy has also litigated cases involving premises liability, severe property damage, catastrophic injuries, aviation disasters and wrongful death.

Cathy's diverse experience includes proficiency in complex electronic discovery, hundreds of depositions and motions hearings, development of expert testimony, participation in private and court ordered mediations, obtaining emergency injunctive relief, court and jury trials, and appellate practice. She has litigated cases involving multiple parties where large complex matters were resolved, including participating as co-lead trial counsel in multi-district litigation, and has practiced in numerous state and federal courts throughout the country. Cathy is proficient in the use of litigation technology to manage discovery, enhance complex briefs, and support trial presentations. Her approach to litigation involves strategic and tenacious advocacy, combined with the pursuit of business resolutions to suit each client's individual objectives.

Representative Matters:

  • Served as lead trial counsel for global manufacturer of appliance products in breach of contract, breach of warranty and Uniform Commercial Code violation action against a supplier that wrongfully terminated a requirements agreement, resulting in a $1.5 million jury verdict in favor of the client.
  • Represented six parties in multi-district litigation involving an air disaster and products liability claims against publisher of approach chart; served on the team of lawyer that were co-lead trial counsel for the MDL plaintiffs committee through discovery, dispositive motions, mediation, the commencement of trial, and final global settlement.
  • Successfully defended an airport retail and concession developer against claims brought by a quick serve franchisee tenant whose business failed; after dismissal of all but one claim on motions to dismiss or for summary judgment, a jury returned a defense verdict in favor of the client on the plaintiff’s remaining business fraud claim.
  • Successfully obtained dismissal of claims brought by a failed retail tenant against airport retail and concession developer on motions to dismiss; the Maryland Court of Special Appeals affirmed the trial court's dismissal of the complaint.
  • Represented national publisher in an employment discrimination case that arose of out corporate restructuring and reductions in force; action was filed in the District of Columbia Superior Court, alleged race, gender, national origin and FMLA discrimination, and the Court dismissed all but one claim on summary judgment.
  • Successfully represented gaming industry client in securing emergency injunctive relief restraining the Attorney General of Ohio from shutting down skill games operators and confiscating games under an executive policy that violated the State constitution.
  • Successfully tried a specific performance action for a real estate developer seeking to enforce its rights to acquire property under contract to acquire property for residential home development; the Circuit Court of Virginia affirmed the commissioner's ruling and awarded a judgment of $450,000 in prevailing party attorneys fees.
