Ellen M. Gregg

Winston-Salem

Ellen Gregg is an accomplished trial lawyer who has litigated cases at all levels of state and federal courts. Ellen brings this experience to bear in her role as Practice Team Leader to the Firm’s Case Management Facility (CMF), which was established in 1997 to assist in-house and outside trial counsel with management of mass tort litigation. A high tech legal knowledge management (LKM) system and central clearinghouse, the CMF creates and administers virtual law firms nationwide, allowing in-house, national and local counsel in multiple jurisdictions to communicate with each other in real time in a secure environment, to electronically and instantly access all work product, and to reduce costs. Ellen has worked directly with general counsel in Fortune 500 companies to develop and implement custom legal knowledge, case and matter management systems that integrate compliance, early case assessment (ECA), LEAN/Six Sigma and crisis management goals.  Her recent efforts include an emphasis on business intelligence and predictive analytics as they may be applied to her clients’ litigation. For years, she has helped her clients achieve significant budget savings while enhancing their ability to win cases.

In Ellen’s twelve years of trial practice prior to leading the Case Management Facility—first as a member of the Insurance, Governmental and Tort Practice Group and then in the Product Liability Practice Group—she handled a broad range of cases, including medical malpractice, wrongful death, insurance coverage, errors and omissions, professional liability, civil rights, as well as complex product liability claims. This extensive trial experience has provided Ellen with a firsthand understanding of how to staff and manage the CMF to enhance trial lawyers’ efficiency and effectiveness, while reducing both attorney and administrative time and accompanying costs.

Throughout her career with Womble Carlyle, Ellen has served in a variety of leadership roles, particularly in the areas of firm management, professionalism and recruiting, and in 2002 was honored by the Firm for her many contributions with the W. P. Sandridge, Sr. Distinguished Service Award for Service to the Firm.
