Lawyer Bio : Ellen M. Gregg

Ellen M. Gregg

Winston-Salem

Ellen Gregg is an accomplished trial lawyer who has litigated cases at all levels of state and federal courts. Ellen brings this experience to bear in her current role as Practice Team Leader to the Firm’s Case Management Facility (CMF), which was established in 1997 to assist in-house and outside trial counsel with management of mass tort litigation. A high tech central clearinghouse, the CMF allows in-house, national and local counsel in multiple jurisdictions to communicate with each other in real time in a secure environment and to electronically and instantly access all work product, pleadings, discovery, etc., thus reducing duplicative efforts by various local, regional and national counsel. Ellen has worked directly with general counsel in Fortune 500 companies to develop and implement custom case management systems.

In Ellen’s twelve years of trial practice prior to managing the Case Management Facility—first as a member of the Insurance, Governmental and Tort Practice Group and then in the Product Liability Practice Group—she handled a broad range of cases, including medical malpractice, wrongful death, insurance coverage, errors and omissions, professional liability, civil rights, as well as complex product liability claims. This extensive trial experience has provided Ellen with a firsthand understanding of how to staff and manage the CMF to enhance trial lawyers’ efficiency and effectiveness, while reducing both attorney and administrative time and accompanying costs.

Throughout her career with Womble Carlyle, Ellen has served in a variety of leadership roles, particularly in the areas of professionalism and recruiting and in 2002 was honored by the Firm for her many contributions with the W. P. Sandridge, Sr. Distinguished Service Award for Service to the Firm.

Ellen also actively serves the Winston-Salem community through her involvement in Habitat for Humanity and the American Heart Association.
