Hugh Claytor is a trial lawyer with more than 20 years' experience. His work has included major personal injury cases, general commercial litigation, and complex litigation involving products liability and multi-jurisdictional class actions. Product liability cases have included building materials, textile machinery, farm machinery, heavy construction equipment and consumer products. Claytor has also handled significant cases arising out of tractor-trailer accidents that resulted in serious personal injuries and deaths. He has represented fleet owners in licensing, permitting and regulatory issues and disputes, including matters involving the South Carolina Department of Public Safety State Transport Police Division.
Claytor spent the first 13 years of his legal career trying cases in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina (Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Lee, Marlboro, Marion, Sumter and Williamsburg counties). Claytor also has extensive experience in the rural courthouses of southwestern South Carolina (Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton, Hampton, Jasper and Orangeburg counties). Having grown up in that region, he is familiar with and has handled cases involving many members of those legal communities. Through those experiences, he has gained a great deal of knowledge about how to effectively represent clients in the more rural venues of South Carolina.
