Jim, a registered patent attorney, focuses his practice on patent application preparation and prosecution and patent-related opinion work. Jim’s work has been in a wide variety of areas, including mechanical, electromechanical, software, design, business method and optical fields. He also has extensive experience in working with foreign associates to obtain foreign patent protection as well as U.S. patents claiming priority to foreign patent applications. He also has a wide range of experience in other intellectual property areas.

Prior to practicing law, Jim worked in the Nuclear Production Department of the Duke Power Company where he served as the corporate coordinator for the in-service testing of safety-related pumps and valves at the company’s nuclear stations, and provided general engineering support with an emphasis on the enhancement of thermal performance of nuclear stations.
