Having practiced in many areas of business litigation for nearly thirty years, Mike brings to his focus on intellectual property and international litigation a wealth of experience before tribunals in the United States and abroad. He has had substantial first-chair experience before judges and juries in both state and federal courts throughout the United States and has led teams of lawyers in handling complex patent and other business litigation. He has served as lead counsel, co-counsel and supervising counsel in matters before tribunals in countries outside the United States. Mike has co-chaired the Firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group and chaired the Business Litigation Practice Group.

In addition to his practice, Mike has accepted high-profile roles in several organizations of lawyers. Mike was the Chairman of Lex Mundi, Ltd., from 1998 to 1999, the world’s leading association of independent law firms, of which Womble Carlyle is the North Carolina member. This association is comprised of more than 160 law firms, which are among the oldest and largest in their respective jurisdictions. In his leadership roles with Lex Mundi, Mike has participated in the growth of the association to contain firms from more than 100 countries and has developed significant relationships with lawyers at the highest caliber firms in the major jurisdictions of the world.

Mike is a trained mediator and a member of the College of Mediators of Lex Mundi. He has an active practice as both mediator and party representative.

Mike has also taken a leadership role in the Federal Circuit Bar Association, which is the exclusive bar association in the United States of the appellate court with jurisdiction of patent appeals from the U.S. district courts. Mike has served on the association’s Board of Governors and as chair of the strategic planning committee, and in these capacities has worked with the leading intellectual property practitioners in the United States.

Mike is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the specialty of Intellectual Property Law and among the Legal Elite of Business North Carolina.
