A member of the firm in the Product Liability Group, Bob presently serves as counsel for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, with an emphasis upon complex discovery issues in national product liability litigation. As part of his work, Bob assists clients in articulating often complicated concepts in litigation. In addition, Bob counsels clients on document retention and production, including issues related to electronic discovery. He has significant experience in document management issues, including coordinating and supervising teams of attorneys and paralegals in locating, organizing and disseminating information. Bob also has broad-based experience in litigation on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants in connection with commercial disputes. He has represented numerous governmental entities and public officials with respect to civil rights claims, in both state and federal courts. Bob has tried cases in all federal trial courts in North Carolina and has briefed and argued cases in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the North Carolina Supreme Court, and the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
