ATLANTA—The Atlanta Bar Foundation recently marked its 25th anniversary with a luncheon at the Capital City Club in downtown Atlanta. Womble Carlyle attorney Bill Ragland serves as President of the Foundation and chaired the luncheon.

"We are very proud of where we have been, and even more excited about where Foundation will go in the next 25 years," said Ragland.

Founded in 1985, the Atlanta Bar Foundation has distributed more than $1.3 million for pro bono, community service and law-related projects to date. For example, the Foundation supports:
  • The Summer Law Internship Program for high school students. Participants in the internship program receive a six-week internship in local law firms, government agencies and corporations to encourage their interest in higher education and the practice of law.  Currently, several active members of the Atlanta Bar Association are graduates of this program.
  • The Minority and Diversity Internship Program for law school students, Clerkships are provided for six to ten weeks during the summer (depending on the employer’s preferences), and students receive the salary paid to other first-year students at the offices where they work.
  • The Truancy Intervention Project. Atlanta Bar members and other volunteers provide pro bono representation to children referred by both by the Fulton County Juvenile Court and Fulton County school systems and help identify and resolve problems that prevent the children from being in school.
  • The Police Scholarship Fund for children of police officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. Since the Fund’s inception, more than $180,000 in scholarships has been awarded to the children of Atlanta police officers.
