Event Recap: Edward Griggs and Kim Stogner Present to the Wake Forest University Family Business Center

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Womble Carlyle’s Winston-Salem office hosted a roundtable and luncheon for members of the Wake Forest University Family Business Center on Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Womble Carlyle lawyers Edward Griggs and Kim Stogner addressed the topic of “Proper Estate Planning to Protect and Preserve your Business and your Family.” The roundtable provided a summary of the status of federal and state estate and gift tax law, addressed elements of a good estate plan and focused on issues relevant to closely held business owners.
 
Edward Griggs and Kim Stogner are members of Womble Carlyle’s Trusts and Estates practice group. Edward focuses his practice on the areas of estate and gift tax planning, charitable planning, fiduciary administration and fiduciary litigation, and assists clients with the creation of new charitable organizations and advises charitable clients about governance, compliance, grant-making and fundraising issues. In 2009, Edward was elected President of The Estate Planning Council of Winston-Salem, Inc.
 
Kim is an experienced trust and estates attorney, having assisted hundreds of clients with estate planning, trust, tax and probate law issues. She works with clients to resolve trust and estate disputes, resolve tax-related problems and create multi-generational estate and business succession plans. She has also earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation. Kim has consistently been ranked as one of North Carolina's top trust and estates attorneys in recent years, ranking in Woodward/White Inc's Best Lawyers in America and Business North Carolina's North Carolina Legal Elite numerous times. Law and Politics magazine has named her a "Super Lawyer" every year since 2006 and this magazine also has named her one of North Carolina's top 50 female lawyers. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University and the Wake Forest University School of Law.
