Event Recap: Sandy Miller Speaks at National Health Care Fraud & Compliance Forum

GREENVILLE, S.C.—Womble Carlyle health care litigation attorney Sandy Miller was a speaker at the American Health Lawyers Association’s Fraud & Compliance Forum, held Sept. 26-28 in Baltimore. The forum was held jointly with the Health Care Compliance Association.
 
Miller presented on, “Fair Market Value: Practical Tips for Handling Regulatory Issues in Transactions and Litigation.” The presentation addressed such issues as:
 
  • The crucial role of fair market value analysis in evaluating compliance with the Stark law, Anti-kickback statute and IRS rules governing tax exempt organizations;
  • Methods for establishing compliance with fair market value, commercial reasonableness, and the “volume or value” standard;
  • Effective use of expert opinions;
  • The interplay between legal counsel and fair market value experts in advising clients.
Miller was joined in the presentation by Daniel Mulholland, an attorney with Horty Springer & Mattern PC in Pittsburgh.
 
Sandy Miller practices in the area of Health Law, representing physicians, physician groups, home health agencies, hospitals, long term care facilities and other related health care providers. Miller has experience representing health care providers in a variety of health law related issues, including federal and state fraud and abuse compliance, physician disciplinary and peer review proceedings, public and private reimbursement issues, including managed care issues, and contract negotiations. She has also provided legal advice to clients on patient rights and research issues.
