Gov. Jim Hunt Meets With Colombia Ambassador Regarding Trade Agreement
August 29, 2011
RALEIGH, N.C.—Womble Carlyle attorney and former four-term North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt recently met with Ambassador Gabriel Silva, the Ambassador for Colombia to the United States. Ambassador Silva was in Raleigh to discuss the pending U.S.—Colombia Free Trade Agreement. The luncheon with Ambassador Silva took place August 29th.
The pending agreement promises to greatly expand trade between Colombia and the United States. In April, the U.S. Commercial Service and the N.C. District Export Council organized the first ever North Carolina-Colombia trade mission.
Governor Hunt has led several international trips to recruit business to North Carolina, both as governor and in private practice. It was during his tenure as Governor that the state transitioned from an economy of primarily traditional industries toward one that includes knowledge-driven industries such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and information technology. Through this change, and in large measure because of Governor Hunt’s leadership, North Carolina consistently ranked at the top of the nation in economic growth, job creation and capital investment and was nationally recognized for its top business climate.
He continues to promote economic development and international trade as a leader of Womble Carlyle’s Economic Development Team.
