WILMINGTON, DEL.—Womble Carlyle attorney Jim Lennon is quoted in a current news article in Radio Business Report/TV Business Report about a patent infringement lawsuit against hundreds of U.S. radio stations.

Mission Abstract Data, LLC is suing the stations, claiming patent infringement on digital music storage systems. A total of 900 stations, owned by such major communications corporations as Beasley Broadcasting, CBS Radio, Cox Radio, Cumulus, Entercom, Greater Media and Townsquare Media, are named in the suit.

But Lennon tells RBR-TVBR that he is skeptical of the lawsuit’s chances. “Given that any publication or prior public use of this concept at least by Jan. 25, 1993 [a year before the patent was filed] would absolutely invalidate this claim, it leaves the world to wonder whether DigiMedia’s patents could survive a validity challenge in court,” he tells the publication.
