Jim Myrick, Womble Carlyle Sponsor Student’s Participation in National Civics and Law Academy
February 21, 2013
CHARLESTON, S.C.—Jim Myrick has litigated complex commercial disputes in Womble Carlyle’s Charleston office for nearly a quarter-century. But he never forgot his roots in rural Allendale County, S.C. Now, Myrick is helping a young man from his home county participate in a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Through Myrick’s leadership, Womble Carlyle is sponsoring Allendale-Fairfax High School student Jalen Hall to attend the National Civics and Law Academy. This scholarship includes the total cost of participation, including room, board, tuition, transportation and fees.
Presented by the American Bar Association, the National Civics and Law Academy offers young people a chance to learn about law, government and public policy at a four-day session in Washington, D.C. Students meet with high-level government officials and visit D.C.’s national landmarks. They also participate in a naturalization ceremony for new U.S. Citizens. This year’s session takes place March10-14.
Jalen is a senior at Allendale-Fairfax High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society, National BETA Club, and Junior Leadership. He has been accepted into several colleges and is deciding where he will attend this fall. He plans to major in electrical engineering. Jalen is the son of Timothy and Lynda Hall and they live in Fairfax, S.C.
Pam Kinard, Guidance Counselor/Career Specialist at the Allendale County Schools, says of Jalen, “He is very academically gifted and is one of the sweetest young men that I have had the honor to know…. He has the kind of disposition that makes others want to see him to do great things.”
Jim Myrick has mediated, arbitrated and tried cases in the areas of personal injury (defense and plaintiff), commercial disputes, products liability and environmental permits. Listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Myrick represents major national and regional companies as well as individuals and minority business interests.
