MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF.—Womble Carlyle communications attorney John Garziglia was a guest speaker at Radio Ink magazine’s recent RadioTech Summit on “Remapping the Spectrum.” The summit covered several areas where federal regulators could make changes affecting radio. The event was held at the Microsoft Silicon Valley Campus in California.

Garziglia discussed such topics as the proposed rewrite of the Communications Act and how the spectrum giveback looming for the TV industry may relate to radio companies. He said that Internet radio cannot replicate the service that over-the-air radio provides and told companies, “Radio must not give up its over-the-air franchise."

Garziglia has represented radio broadcasters in matters including transactional and contract negotiations for broadcast station mergers and acquisitions, the securing of financing, governmental auctions of new frequencies, license renewals, new stations applications, facility changes, facility upgrades, licensing, and compliance with FCC rules, regulations and policies. He is a member of the International Broadcasters Idea Bank and practices in Womble Carlyle’s Washington, D.C. office.
