ATLANTA—Boxing Legend and Womble Carlyle client Evander Holyfield was honored by the City of Atlanta and Fulton County, Ga., on Friday, June 11th.
Holyfield, a five-time World Heavyweight Champion, received the Phoenix Award, the highest individual honor given by the City of Atlanta. In addition, Fulton County proclaimed Friday, June 11th as “Evander Holyfield Day.” In addition to his remarkable boxing career, Holyfield has been involved in numerous charitable and civic activities in the Atlanta area.

Womble Carlyle attorney Bernard H. Coleman, Jr., the leader of the firm’s Sports & Entertainment Practice, spearheaded the event, which took place at the One Ninety One Club in Atlanta on Friday evening. The event was co-hosted by One Ninety One Club Member Brian Poe, Esq., of Brian Poe and Associates and features a cocktail reception, followed by a “Conversation with the Champion.”

In April, the 47-year-old Holyfield shocked the sports world by capturing the WBF World Heavyweight Championship Title, which made Holyfield the first and only five-time Heavyweight Champion of the World. He also announced that he soon will be introducing his own line of revolutionary nutritional products to the public to help people look and feel their best. Coleman is advising him on this and other business ventures.

The Honorable Michael Julian Bond, Atlanta City Councilman, attended the event and presented Holyfield with the Phoenix Award on behalf of Mayor Kasim Reed. The Honorable Ceasar Mitchell, Atlanta City Council President, served as honorary Master of Ceremonies and presented Holyfield with the President’s Award.
Other dignitaries and special guests who attended included Georgia State Senator Vincent Fort; and Jeff Hullinger, Emmy award-winning sports broadcaster.
