Nellie Shipley Reappointed Chair of Cary Economic Development Commission
October 13, 2009
CARY, N.C.—Womble Carlyle attorney Nellie Shipley has been reappointed to chair the Cary Economic Development Commission. The one-year reappointment, voted on by the Cary Town Council, took effect Oct. 1st.
Shipley has chaired the Commission since 2006. In 2008, she was reappointed to a second three-year term on the board.
The Economic Development Commission is just one of the community and economic development boards Shipley has served on in the Triangle region, particularly the fast-growing Cary community. She is the Past Chair of the Cary Chamber of Commerce and a six-year member of the Chamber’s Executive Committee. She also has chaired or served on planning advisory committees for the Town of Cary, and was a member of a Wake County citizen’s advisory committee, focusing her efforts on school facilities and construction. Last year, she was selected by Cary Magazine as one of five 2008 Women of Western Wake for her efforts to improve the quality of life in that community.
Shipley’s work in economic development is a natural fit with her practice as a real estate development attorney. Her past work includes helping clients acquire, develop and operate large residential, office, retail, mixed-use and industrial properties. Shipley has taken a particular interest in “green” or sustainable real estate, and is one of the relatively few attorneys in the country to have earned LEED Professional Accreditation, the leading professional accreditation in the sustainable construction and development industry.
