WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— In addition to being a tireless advocate for clients, Womble Carlyle attorney Ryan Opel also has been a devoted supporter of the arts.

On Wednesday, October 29th, Ryan's dedication was honored by the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, as he was named the 2008 recipient of the 2008 R. Philip Hanes, Jr. Young Leader Award. The Hanes Award is given annually to an individual under the age of 40 who has exemplified dedication and leadership as an arts volunteer.

Ryan currently serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Winston-Salem Symphony Association, Inc. He also chairs the Symphony's Governance Committee. He recently finished a four-year term on the Board of Directors of the Piedmont Opera, Inc.

In this capacity, Ryan has put his skills as a corporate and securities attorney to good use by offering the Winston-Salem Symphony and Piedmont Opera legal guidance on such issues as policies, procedures, audits, charters and bylaws.

At Womble Carlyle, Ryan focuses his practice on general corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, securities regulation, corporate governance, corporate finance, commercial contracts, and franchising.
