ATLANTA—Womble Carlyle Corporate and Securities attorney Sandy Smith is interviewed in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article on the troubled merger of fast-food giant Wendy’s/Arby’s.

The combined company operates more than 10,000 restaurants, making it the nation’s third-largest fast-food corporation. But the parent company now is looking to sell the Arby’s brand and focus exclusively on Wendy’s, after experiencing difficulties since the merger.

Smith likened the deal to the massive AOL Time-Warner merger, which failed after the combined companies couldn’t function together. Ultimately, the company was divided into separate entities again.

Sandy Smith is a “deal attorney” with a diverse national practice managing, negotiating and completing corporate and financial transactions for both private and public businesses. His clients include companies in the technology, manufacturing and distribution, healthcare, staffing, retail and service, hospitality and restaurant, venture/investment and holding industries. Smith practices in Womble Carlyle’s Atlanta office.
