TYSONS CORNER, VA.—A team of Womble Carlyle attorneys has been honored for serving those who serve their nation.

Steve Cave, Lesley Fierst and Gary Nunes have been awarded the American Bar Association Military Pro Bono Project Outstanding Services Award for their work assisting military personnel with legal issues. The ABA Military Pro Bono Project accepts case referrals from military attorneys to provide pro bono legal assistance to active-duty military personal in civil legal matters.

The Womble Carlyle team has handled several different matters, including a case in which a Marine corporal’s vehicle was illegally towed and sold in violation of the Servicemembers’ Civil Relief Act while he was deployed overseas. The Womble Carlyle attorneys filed suit in federal court, embarked on discovery and ultimately were able to obtain a favorable settlement for the servicemember.

“With your exceptional pro bono assistance, you are helping to ensure that our junior-enlisted, active-duty servicemembers are receiving the legal help they need,” writes David Ehrhart, Chair of the ABA’s Standing Committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel.

Steve Cave primarily represents government contractors in the statutory and regulatory interpretation of and application to state and federal contracts. He regularly counsels clients at both the prime contractor and subcontractor levels regarding contract formation and administration. He practices in Womble Carlyle’s Northern Virginia office.

Lesley Fierst focuses on business litigation and white collar criminal defense matters. Lesley has more than 10 years of experience representing clients in complex commercial litigation, financial services litigation, business torts, SEC investigation and enforcement actions, internal investigations, and criminal investigations and prosecutions, including first-chair trial experience. She practices in Womble Carlyle’s Northern Virginia office.

Gary Nunes is an experienced trial attorney who has more than 25 years’ experience in complex commercial litigation and white collar criminal defense matters. In particular, he represents clients in breach of contract, fraud, business torts, shareholder disputes and trademark, patent and copyright infringement matters. Gary’s litigation experience has included the representation of companies and individuals in matters filed in federal and state courts throughout the United States, including the Eastern District of Virginia (“Rocket Docket”). Nunes practices in Womble Carlyle’s Northern Virginia office.
