Womble Carlyle Adds Two Leading Litigators to Baltimore Office
October 1, 2007
Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC is pleased to announce the addition of two accomplished litigation attorneys to its Baltimore Office. John Parker Sweeney and Sky Woodward, both formerly Principals with Miles & Stockbridge P.C., add their experience and depth of experience to Womble Carlyle’s growing business litigation practice in Baltimore. Womble Carlyle’s Baltimore Office was established in February 2007 under the leadership of former Maryland Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr.
"Womble Carlyle is thrilled to provide its clients with two of Baltimore’s leading litigation attorneys," said David B. Hamilton, Managing Member of Womble Carlyle’s Baltimore Office. "John and Sky have earned the respect of clients, colleagues and competitors for their superior representation in matters such as toxic torts, product liability and premises liability claims."
John Parker Sweeney has extensive experience defending business clients in mass torts and industry wide litigation nationwide for more than 30 years, including representation of clients as national coordinating counsel and local trial counsel in class actions and mass consolidations, with particular emphasis on products and premises liability, toxic torts, occupational mass torts, medical and biologic products litigation, and commercial and securities class actions. He has practiced at Miles & Stockbridge P.C. for more than 17 years, and served as its Litigation Department Chair since 2000. Baltimore Magazine recognized him in 2006 and 2007 as one of the "Maryland Super Lawyers" for his achievements in Mass Torts. He is admitted to the bars of Maryland, the District of Columbia, and New York.
"Womble Carlyle’s demonstrated ability to bring the highest quality legal services to businesses in Baltimore and throughout Maryland make it a powerful platform for our products liability and toxic torts defense practice,” said Sweeney. "We are combining strength with strength."
Sky Woodward has extensive experience in state and federal litigation, as well as in client counseling and risk management, with particular emphasis on toxic torts, products liability, premises liability, environmental law, and mass torts and industry wide litigation. Baltimore Business Journal recognized her as one of the area’s "40 Under 40" business leaders in 2004, and she served as President of Maryland Defense Counsel in 2005-2006. She practiced at Miles & Stockbridge for nearly ten years, having served as Principal since 2002. She is admitted to the bar in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and California.
"I am delighted to be a Member of a firm recognized as one of the nation’s ’Best Law Firms for Women,’" Woodward said. "Womble Carlyle meaningfully supports the efforts of lawyers like me to maintain a career-family balance while achieving extraordinary results for our clients."
Both Sweeney and Woodward joined Womble Carlyle as Members.
