Womble Carlyle Attorneys Take Leadership Roles in DRI, The Voice of the Defense Bar
The firm will take center stage at the 2012 DRI Annual Meeting, Chaired by Womble Carlyle’s Sky Woodward.
NEW ORLEANS—The 2012 DRI Annual Meeting will soon be upon us, and Womble Carlyle will play a major role in the annual event.
Womble Carlyle toxic tort and environmental litigation attorney Sky Woodward is serving as Chair of the DRI Annual Meeting, which takes place Oct. 24-28 in New Orleans. Woodward has assembled a line-up of speakers that includes U.S. Ambassador Karen Hughes, former White House Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers, economic historian Niall Ferguson, humorist Roy Blount, Jr., and authors Paul Sullivan and Shankar Vedantam.
In addition, John Sweeney, a senior product liability attorney in Womble Carlyle’s Baltimore office, has served as Second Vice President of DRI, the Voice of the Defense Bar. Sweeney was installed in this post at the 2011 DRI Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.
Also at the DRI Annual Meeting, Womble Carlyle attorney Alison Ashe-Card will receive the Lifetime Community Service Award from DRI. Ashe-Card’s service to the community and the profession includes serving on numerous civic boards. Before joining Womble Carlyle, Ashe-Card spent five years in Chicago as an attorney with Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago. In that role, she provided legal counsel to low-income clients who otherwise couldn’t afford a lawyer.
In addition, the 2012 DRI Annual Meeting will feature dozens of continuing legal education sessions on a wide range of legal, leadership, and business topics. The meeting also will include a networking reception at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and a book review of the novel Dancing on Glass, featuring the novel’s author Pamela Binnings Ewen.
