NEW YORK CITY - Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC Managing Member Keith Vaughan accepted the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund's Corporate Leadership Award at The Fund's annual awards dinner at the Sheraton New York Hotel on Monday, November 3. This is The Fund's highest award to business and was given to Womble Carlyle in recognition of the firm's commitment to the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, its 45 member institutions and the students educated at those schools. Womble Carlyle is the first law firm in the nation to receive the award.

Actress Diahann Carroll hosted the dinner, which was attended by over 1500 leaders in the worlds of business, education and entertainment. The awards dinner was held in conjunction with the Fund's 3rd Annual Leadership Institute, an educational seminar for 300 students enrolled at institutions that are members of the Fund.

Womble Carlyle and several of its attorneys took an active role in this year's Institute, including a presentation to students during the opening Leadership Address Breakfast by Keith Vaughan on planning today for a satisfying life and career. Keith capped his remarks by giving each attendee a copy of the book Thurgood Marshall: His Speeches, Writings, Arguments, Opinions, and Reminiscences, edited by Mark V. Tushnet.

In addition to Womble Carlyle receiving the Corporate Leadership Award, five firm lawyers were also honored by The Fund. Four were honored at the Annual Founder's Volunteer Recognition Reception at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, November 2. Jacquelyn Austin, Diane Fuchs, Craig Senn and Mitch Tuchman were recognized for their outstanding service on behalf of the Fund and each was presented with an engraved bust of Thurgood Marshall.

Brent Clinkscale, who has led the firm's service to the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, and who is both General Counsel to The Fund and on the Board of Directors, was given an award for Board Leadership during the Board luncheon on Monday, November 3. Keynote speaker at that luncheon was Jonathan Marshall, TMSF Board Member and son of Thurgood Marshall.
