Womble Carlyle has been honored for its efforts to help preserve North Carolina’s legal history through its support of the Supreme Court Historical Society.

The firm received membership in the Thomas Ruffin Society, given by the Supreme Court Historical Society for support of its historical preservation efforts. The membership was presented by Chief Justice Sarah Parker in a May 11th ceremony attended by the North Carolina Supreme Court. The Thomas Ruffin Society is named for a former Chief Justice of the N.C. Supreme Court.

Attorneys representing the firm at the ceremony were former N.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Burley Mitchell, Marilyn Forbes, Johnny Loper, Julie Bradburn, Sarah Buthe, Chris Jones, Sean Andrussier and Jack Cozort.

The Supreme Court Historical Society works to collect and preserve the history of the state’s courts. For example, a recent exhibit chronicles the history of women who have served as judges. Upcoming projects include creating a digital inventory of the portraits on display in all 100 county courthouses in the state.

The exhibits are open to the public and are on display in the Supreme Court building in Raleigh, which recently underwent a $9.5 million renovation.

A full-service business law firm, Womble Carlyle ranks among AmLaw's 100 leading firms in the country and is a top law firm for companies doing business in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic states. The firm is a recipient of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Corporate Leadership Award, making Womble Carlyle the first law firm ever to receive the highest honor given to a business organization in recognition of its support of the Fund and its 45 member educational institutions.
