Womble Carlyle Participates in Minority Corporate Counsel Association 9th Annual CLE Expo
March 30, 2010
Womble Carlyle participated as a Strategic Sponsor of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s (MCCA) 9th Annual CLE Expo in downtown Chicago on March 18 and 19. The CLE Expo brings together the best and brightest in the legal industry, with a special emphasis on talented minority and women attorneys who share their expertise on their substantive legal practice areas during the conference sessions. The event was attended by more than 450 in-house counsel representing corporations, associations and government from across the country, along with other law firm attorneys dedicated to diversity in the marketplace.
Attorneys Kevin Lyn and Sanjay Beri were among the Womble Carlyle contingent attending the CLE Expo, along with Kelvin Chin, Sales Director; Carmen Canales, the firm’s Chief Talent Officer; Katie Tedrow, Marketing Manager; and Kenny Tatum, Director of Lateral Recruiting and Diversity Strategy. During the conference, the group met with in-house counsel from around the country – including several clients in attendance – in the various breakout sessions and at an exposition booth sponsored by Womble Carlyle in the convention’s hospitality hall. The Womble Carlyle team engaged conference attendees in conversations regarding the firm’s efforts related to diversity and innovative client service solutions.
“The Expo was a great opportunity to discuss issues that organizations are currently facing and the value of having a diverse group of attorneys available to provide solutions for our clients,” said Kevin Lyn. “It’s clear that this event also served as an opportunity to further align our diversity efforts with those of our clients.”
As a Strategic Sponsor, Womble Carlyle received repeated recognition throughout the conference alongside fellow Strategic Sponsors, Microsoft and Walmart. Firm representatives also had the opportunity to attend the Midwest Employer of Choice Awards Dinner on the eve of the conference, which honored this year’s award recipients Kraft Foods, MillerCoors, and Wells Fargo & Company.
“As a first time attendee of the MCCA’s CLE Expo, I was very impressed with the caliber of attendees and believe we were able to impress upon the in-house counsel in attendance our innovative, client-driven culture and commitment to diversity in the legal industry,” said Sanjay Beri. “It is an outstanding business development and networking event.”
The MCCA advocates for the expanded hiring, retention and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms that serve them. The MCCA accomplishes its mission through the collection and dissemination of information about diversity in the legal profession.
