The North Carolina Center for Women in Public Service (NCCWPS) recently held an event titled "Women's Leadership: Shaping North Carolina's Political Landscape" on Sunday, July 20th, at Peace College in Raleigh, North Carolina, to celebrate their 5th Annual Summer Institute Graduates. Womble Carlyle was proud to sponsor the important event. Womble Carlyle member, Jackie Terry Hughes, serves on the NCCWPS Board of Directors and takes an active role in the organization.
The event included a brunch and panel of distinguished guest speakers featuring Secretary of State Elaine Marshall and Associate Justice Robin Hudson. The celebration culminated with a graduation ceremony for the Summer Institute graduates. Womble Carlyle paralegal, Chreatha Alston, was among the graduates and is included in the accompanying photo (second person from the right in the first row).
The Summer Institute is the NCCWPS's signature project. It is an interactive, hands-on, high-energy workshop spread over two summer weekends, is geared toward women who would like to learn more of what to expect from running for public office or seeking an appointed position.
NCCWPS is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization offering strategic courses and programs to train women for political leadership. Acting as a clearinghouse for women considering civic leadership, the organization has created a statewide network of women committed to the same mission.
