Womble Carlyle Presented a Webinar on Optimizing the Benefits of Patient Safety Organizations

On May 20th, members of Womble Carlyle's Government Affairs team, Rep. Deborah Pryce and Peggy Binzer, joined with professionals from Clarity Group, Inc. and officials from the Agency for Health Research and Quality (AHRQ) to present a live seminar and webinar focused on optimizing the benefits of a Patient Safety Organization (PSO).

Attendees gained valuable insight on many of the outstanding questions surrounding PSOs and how to effectively participate in a PSO system to discern fact from fiction. The program focused on how to effectively participate in a PSO system and how the PSO system can support your culture of safety. Attention was given to the potential legal issues that providers who participate in a PSO can prepare to address. Panelists discussed myths and realities of the Patient Safety Act (PSA); misconceptions of hospitals and PSOs about the PSA; PSO Pilot - Blood Utilization; magnet status-nursing peer review to support a culture of safety; and potential challenges PSOs and health care providers face under the PSA.
