RALEIGH, N.C.-Womble Carlyle attorney and former North Carolina Court of Appeals Judge Jack L. Cozort has been named to the North Carolina State University Board of Trustees.
Cozort will fill the seat made vacant when former North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Burley Mitchell joined the University of North Carolina system's Board of Governors.
"North Carolina State University has a special place in my heart," said Cozort, a 1972 N.C. State graduate. "I'm honored that my alma mater has asked me to serve in this capacity and I look forward to working with my fellow Trustees to make N.C. State the best university it can possibly be."
Cozort has extensive experience representing clients before Congress and the North Carolina General Assembly, as well as federal and state boards and agencies. He has been ranked as on of North Carolina's most effective lobbyists by the N.C. Center for Public Policy Research for the past nine years.
Before re-entering private practice, Cozort served as a North Carolina Court of Appeals judge for 12 years and while there, held the post as acting director of the Administrative Office of the Courts for 15 months. Prior to his tenure on the Court of Appeals, he served as counsel to North Carolina Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. for eight years.
