WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC, would like to congratulate Pepsi Beverage Company on its announcement of a major expansion of the company’s Winston-Salem Call Center. The expansion will add 195 new jobs paying an average annual salary of more than $36,000, plus benefits.

In his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, Womble Carlyle Managing Member Keith Vaughan was among those speaking at the Nov. 1st announcement of the expansion. The Winston-Salem Chamber played a critical role in recruiting the Pepsi jobs, including preparing a detailed report on the benefits of locating in Winston-Salem and meeting with Pepsi officials during the two-year site selection process.

Vaughan joined North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue, Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines, Dave Plyler, Chairman of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, and Don Flow, Vice Chair of the Wake Forest University Board of Trustees, in announcing this good news.

“On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, we want to thank Pepsi for its confidence in our community,” Vaughan said. “Pepsi is a global company, and we value its involvement in our community, including the many hours of volunteer leadership it provides and its support for so many community organizations. The Chamber has been pleased to work with Pepsi, the State, Forsyth County and the City of Winston-Salem to encourage this expansion.”

Currently, Pepsi has 870 employees at its Winston-Salem facility. The company’s expansion includes plans to invest more than $7 million locally during the next five years.

Pepsi received local and state economic incentives for job creation. Such incentives were successfully defended in court by a Womble Carlyle team in a case that reached the North Carolina Supreme Court. This case established the legality of such incentives in North Carolina, giving economic developers a vital tool to use in recruiting new jobs and investment.
