TYSONS CORNER, VA.—Experienced business transaction attorney Irma Isabel De Obaldia has joined Womble Carlyle’s Northern Virginia office, joining former colleagues Todd Harris and Sanjay Beri from Cooley Godward’s Reston, Virginia, office.

Irma Isabel focuses her practice on commercialization of information technology, including software licensing, Internet-based services, sales of IT to the federal government, technology transfer from universities and federal labs to private industry, international IT outsourcing, IT and media distribution and supply chain agreements. She counsels high-tech, software and Internet industry clients on monetizing their proprietary technologies, structuring and negotiating corporate and commercial transactions, and the intellectual property aspects of client financings and M&A transactions.

In addition to her law firm experience, Irma Isabel brings a business background to the firm, having led Oracle Corporation’s licensing management and compliance program for Latin America and later managing a sales force for Oracle’s VIP accounts in Latin America. She also previously practiced law in her native Panama and worked for the Panamanian Government as an international trade negotiator, where she helped draft landmark legislation concerning Panama’s compliance with World Trade Organization regulations. She also helped create the Panamanian government’s strategic implementation plan to protect intellectual property rights.

“Irma Isabel brings a unique and valuable mix of legal, business and international experience to Womble Carlyle,” said Dan Mackesey, Managing Member of the firm’s Northern Virginia office. “That unique career background will directly benefit clients looking for practical, well-rounded advice regarding their commercial transaction requirements.”
