TYSONS CORNER, VA.—Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC, is pleased to announce that experienced venture capital and corporate transactions attorney Karl T. Knoll has joined the firm’s Northern Virginia office, joining former colleagues Todd Harris, Sanjay Beri and Irma Isabel De Obaldia from Cooley Godward’s Reston, Virginia office.

Karl focuses his practice on the representation of emerging technology company issuers and venture capital and private equity investors, both domestically and abroad, in a wide-range of transactional work including mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and private placements of preferred equity securities or convertible debt securities. He also assists companies with general corporate matters.

“Our corporate transactional practice continues to grow and Karl will be a proven addition to our team,” said Dan Mackesey, Managing Member of the firm’s Northern Virginia office. “In particular, Karl is well-known for successfully handling complex transactions and brings a vast amount of international experience that will be of particular benefit to our clients in the Northern Virginia/D.C. market.”

“I am very pleased to be joining my former Cooley colleagues and believe the bold moves that Womble Carlyle has made by expanding in this down market will position it extremely well to be one of the dominant venture capital and emerging technology companies practices in the Mid-Atlantic market, a position that it already enjoys in the Southeast technology corridor,” said Karl. "Its core strengths in servicing technology clients through its venture capital, mergers & acquisitions, technology transactions and intellectual property practices along with its robust government transactions and regulatory practices provide an excellent platform for me to develop new client relationships while allowing me to provide the clients that I have served over the years with significantly more comprehensive services.”

Karl’s experience includes working on cross-border transactions in Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Cayman Islands, England, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the Ukraine.

A Harvard Law School graduate, Karl also previously practiced at Kirkland and Ellis International LLP in London, where he focused on transnational private equity investments and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.
